Dallas-Houston Connection

The Songbird in Me held its first event, Come Sit at My Table, July 2014 in Dallas, TX. This initial gathering was a round table discussion covering the topic of abusive relationships. The meeting was composed of 8 participants and titled, “Everybody has a story”. The idea was to create a safe place to educate, share, release, and encourage others who may be yet walking through crisis and trauma.

From this experience, Songbird became a voice of advocacy for those who could not speak for themselves. Thus, began the second phase of Songbird that allowed partnership with our sister city, Houston, TX. Worship With A Purpose, a cause-related concert for human trafficking, was held September 2015 and proceeds raised went to fund safe houses in the Houston area for those affected by this terrible injustice.

As we continue our mission, the hope is to awake consciousness in others to recognize that trauma and crisis, no matter big or small; has prolonged effects within our families and communities. For healing to begin, there must be awareness for families and individuals to be restored to their rightful place. This is what a true Songbird does.
